GIRONA PROVINCE LOOP

DIFFERENT DATES

A journey shaped by the sea, mountains and backroads

I’ve been riding these roads for some time now.
This is where I train, where I go when I need to think, and where I come back to, again and again. Girona is not just where I live, it’s where I learned how to look for the hidden corners.

Over time, you start to understand the territory differently. You stop chasing the well-known climbs and begin to connect the quiet roads in between. The gravel sections, the backroads, the small transitions that don’t appear on the maps but make everything flow. This route comes from that. It’s my way of showing what Girona really is beyond what most people see. From the inland forests to the coastline, and all the way to the Pyrenees, linking landscapes that feel completely different but are all part of the same place. Some of these roads I ride every week. Others I discovered slowly, getting lost, turning around, trying again. Putting this loop together has been about connecting all those pieces into something that makes sense when you ride it.

It is not just a route, but a way of moving through this territory. My goal with this experience is simple: to share these places with you in the way I know them.
At the right pace, through the right roads, without rushing. So you can see Girona the way I see it.

Girona

This territory is defined by contrast. The Mediterranean coastline, inland plains and the Pyrenees all coexist within a relatively small region, shaping a landscape that constantly changes as you move through it. Roads don’t follow a single logic here — they adapt to the terrain, linking valleys, forests and open fields.

Beyond its well-known cycling reputation, Girona holds a quieter side. Small villages, agricultural land and secondary roads form the real structure of the region. Life moves at a steady pace, closely tied to the land and the seasons.

Here, riding is not just about the roads themselves, but about how everything connects. The transitions between places, the shifts in landscape and the feeling of moving continuously through a territory that reveals itself gradually.

This journey unfolds across a territory where the Mediterranean, inland plains and the Pyrenees coexist within a constantly changing landscape. Over the coming days, the route moves from coastal roads to agricultural fields and into more mountainous terrain, creating a continuous shift in scenery and rhythm.

Each stage is designed to connect these environments naturally, allowing the experience to build progressively as you move through the region.

We leave Girona heading north-east through quiet backroads and agricultural landscapes. The terrain is mostly flat with gentle rolling sections, allowing the group to find a natural rhythm early on.

As we approach the coast, the landscape opens up and the Mediterranean comes into view. A smooth first stage to settle into the journey.

The stage begins along the coastline, before turning inland toward Cap de Creus. The terrain quickly becomes more irregular, with short climbs and exposed sections shaped by wind and sea.

While we move deeper into the peninsula, the landscape turns more rugged and open.
The final approach to Cadaqués reveals a different atmosphere; white houses, narrow streets and a strong connection to the sea, a place that has long attracted artists drawn by its light and isolation.

We leave Cadaqués climbing out of the coastline, entering the rugged terrain of Cap de Creus one last time. Short but sharp climbs define the first part of the day, with constant exposure to wind and open views.

As we move inland, the landscape gradually softens.
Roads become quieter and more consistent, leading us toward the Pyrenean foothills. The final part of the stage crosses into France, finishing in Céret after a longer and more sustained effort.

The day builds gradually toward the Pyrenees, following quiet roads through forested valleys and a steady, uninterrupted ascent.

Most of the stage takes place on paved roads, allowing for a smooth and continuous effort as we gradually gain elevation. As we approach Camprodon, the landscape becomes more mountainous, marking a clear transition into the Pyrenees.

We finish in Camprodon, a small and distinctive mountain town, known for its stone architecture and quiet atmosphere.

The route heads inland from Camprodon, staying within a mountainous landscape where elevation remains constant throughout the day. Long and sustained climbs define the rhythm, with very little flat terrain to break the effort.

Quiet backroads connect remote valleys and forested sections, demanding a steady and controlled pace. Rupit appears at the end of a demanding stage, set above the cliffs and surrounded by dense forest.

A long descent leads us toward the Sau and Susqueda reservoirs, one of the most scenic sections of the stage, before the landscape gradually opens on the way back toward Girona.

The route moves through the forests of Les Guilleries, linking quiet backroads and gravel sections in a constantly changing terrain. Short climbs and descents follow one another, keeping a steady but varied rhythm throughout the day.
